Mouth blow / 90gr
The Gabriel-Glas is strong by design. Each glass is either molded — the StandArt glass — or blown — the Gold Edition glass — as one piece, seamless with no stress points (e.g. at the base of the bowl, or base of the stem like many other glasses). Gabriel-Glas, of Austria, is lead-free crystal and perfectly safe in your dishwasher! So invite your friends over and don’t worry about hand washing all those glasses! Save time, space and money!
When enjoying any style of wine in Gabriel-Glas, your nose actually fits in the glass and makes drinking the wine much easier, because you do not have to lift your entire head backwards in order to let the wine flow onto the palate. Moreover, the very much anticipated first sip is enhanced with the full expression of the wine’s bouquet, delivered by design by Gabriel-Glas.
We designed the shape of our glass to allow for the wine to flow freely onto your palate with a focused, rather than defused, distribution of wine normally created by bulbous-style wine glasses. This provides for perfect extraction of the wine, balanced between the acidity and its sweetness. Because of the broader base and narrow opening of the glass, the wine flow is more broadly distributed in the Gabriel-Glas in contrast to many other glasses. Gabriel-Glas delivers wine to the palate in a manner that expresses even the most subtle flavors.
The glass is ideal for every style of wine. Form follows function: The broader base of the bowl of the glass — a precise 95 millimeters — and the conical shape at the top of the glass— allows for the “nose” of a wine, its top, middle and a base notes to emerge in the glass. The glass acts as a gentle decanter. The shape is designed for the maximum enjoyment of every varietal and style of wine served in the glass.
Every millimeter of this glass has been designed with purpose, starting with the foot of the glass. The absolute flatness of the bottom gives it stability. The weight of the foot determines the balance of the glass in your hand. The combination of the length of the stem and its barely perceptible x-shape makes holding this glass in your hand a pleasure.
The gently tapered shape, similar to a funnel, becomes an extension of your nasal passages so that you experience the full extent of the flavors and aromas of wine served in Gabriel-Glas. The 66 millimeters width of the mouth of the glass is engineered as exactly the right size for maximum olfactory pleasure. In exhaustive R&D leading to our ultimate glass design, we found that too small an opening blocks flavors and if it’s too large they can completely disintegrate. The precision of this glass provides the greatest expression of the complexity of the wine and subtle aromas of the bouquet.
The bowl of the glass is a slightly outwardly curved in a v-shape so that the wine is broadly dispersed in the glass allowing for more surface to air contact — an instant decanting effect. This subtle way to decant is ideal, not only for rare wines and in assisting restaurateurs who often serve young wines, but allows you to decant your wine in the glass, leading to a superior drinking experience.
The glass was designed so that the opening is subtly orientated inwards allowing for optimum bundling of bouquets. When experiencing the wine with your Gabriel-Glas, the semi-volatile substances are mixed with the lighter scents like a wave breaking at just the right time. This phenomenon has never been possible with a traditional wine glass.
We offer two versions of the Gabrial-Glas, molded StandArt glass, and mouth-blown Gold Edition. Both are painstakingly made with exact dimensions and with the precision necessary to achieve all the benefits we’ve described above. The molded StandArt glass weighs only 145 grams and the mouth-blown Gold Edition as a slight 90 grams!
